Wow, the 35L wins at all apertures and down right slaughters the siggy when its stopped down to f/2.0+

Put both on the 30D. Then the difference is not as noticeable.

I did, look at the 2nd and 3rd picture...you wont notice much on the first cause there's so little detail in that pic.

I presently own and use both the 35L and Sigma 30... each on a different camera, 35L on my 1D MkI and Sig 30 on my 10D. All of the other post offer up good points about each lens. I'm lucky enough to be able to own both and use them on a 1.3x crop and 1.6x crop camera bodies. I feel that the 35L is a perfect match to the 1D... nice f.o.v. and vice versa for the sig 30 + 10D combo. My Sig 30 is in for a re-calibration as it produces too soft of a focus when the subject is further than 8-10ft from me. The 35L has never given me problems.

I just want to know the order of focusing speed between the Sigma 50 1.4, 30 1.4, and the Canon 50 1.4, and 35L.

Obviously 35L is on top, but does the Sigma 50 1.4 focus faster than the rest? That's the million/$500 question for me.

Yeah I mean he got a bad copy of the 24L II, right? 'Cause his initial preview was basically "WTF this sucks."

:(:( I had to return it with only a month of use...I fell completely in love and had my heart broken...my powerbook G4 failed and I needed to return it to get a new one

Im trying to sell my 24-70 to fund the 35L again as I can't live without it...

SWEEEET and very nice bokeh for a 35mm lens
Yeah the 35L is over rated:rolleyes::lol::lol:...

I say if you can afford the 24L or 35L do it because its better glass than the 30. They both just are. And for a crop camera I would go with the 24L.

Its up to you whether they're that much better to justify the cost. But its usually the very little things that can separate good from very good.;)

i would go with the sigma.. i have it.. and i feel it is an excellent lens.. most of my best images were taken with this lens.. and they are sharp.. clear.. the bokeh is creamy, and it doesnt take up so much space in the camera bag.

a wonderful lens for sure.

I can only tell you that neither 50mm focuses fast enough for sports. :(

Thanks airfrog:)

Two shadows. Yeah I second that...the 50L is amazing but I would never purchase it unless I was using it for studio work only...just my opinion though I dont want a bunch of people jumping on me;)

It takes a motor and a half to move that much glass. Its biggest problem is that it is front focusing and not rear
