this is a stupid issue. white bodies would look dumb. if they were profitable, they would already be made.

For a long time black is what set the Pro bodies apart from the amateur silver bodies and I think it is still ingrained that black = pro but if you want a white one let make it with brushed aluminum highlights get Jonathan Ivies to design it and slap an Apple logo on in and call it the iCanon and this is coming from a big apple fan I don't mind my computers and electronic gadgets white but I will keep my cameras black thank you.

Why doesn't canon make all their lenses black?
Black stays good looking nearly forever, while white always fades or gets dirt too quickly.
IMHO

I'm rather more concerned with the colour in the pictures the camera takes than the colour of the camera. Sense of proportion required, I think.

There is always one sensible answer to threads like this :-) :-)

I have a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 not because I couldn't not afford the Canon f/2.8, but because I wanted a black lens that didn't scream at you.
I've never had it overheat or melt yet and I've never heard or a Nikon one melting either. :D Mind you , I live in England, with our wonderful weather  maybe we should have black ones to keep the glass at the correct temperature......

Something I wish they had-
a heat-wrapped 70-200
I don't know about you, but in 26 degree weather the metal on the lens gets really cold
and I can't wear gloves because they're too big to work the switches with

I think white lenses really only make a difference in 150 degree weather, like in the nambian desert or something. Other than that, I think it's mostly for show.

This (external link) is not heated but it is better than feeling cold metal.
I really could care less about the "white bodies" The silver bodies in the xxxd models did not make them fly off the shelf. If Canon wanted to do something to their bodies to make them sell better they could weather seal them all without a price increase.

+1 Canon is a great system but digital has yet to obtain the color of some film. The DSLR has come a long way in such a short time. I can not wait to see where they are in another 10 years. So long as they are not white.

The price for that is ridiculous.

I agree but it is a matter of supply and demand.

If nothing else it would be impractical, looking dirty half the time.
Make it brushed metal instead and I'll definitely consider it.

Forget white, think of something only the ubber-rich Hollywood types or Saudi princes could afford: 22k Gold!

but there are people who buys silver bodies

Not many. And those who do, usually would rather have the black bodies.

The painted silver plastic looks cheap, at least to me. The black Rebel XT looks more expensive than its silver cousin.

Now, if the camera bodies were clearcoated with the magnesium finish showing through... well, that'd be a different story.
