Working in lightroom I've found that the healing brush, which also has a cloning option, only works for spot removal. Does anyone know if there any way to use it like the clone stamp tool in Photoshop to cover a large area?

No, it is a spot removal tool only, it's actually called "spot removal tool". You'd need to edit in PS to do anything more complex.

That is primarily what it is for.

I use it to remove all kinds of unwanted things... And you can fix some pretty big areas with it.

Kind of annoying that they don't give you a clone brush option though. I've been trying to make the switch from Aperture, and that is one thing that I do miss. Sometimes it is easier just to make the change in Aperture rather than generate a tiff and bring it over to additional editing software.
