Northern Hawk Owl

A rare species here in NH and I was lucky to get close to this one with a 600mm.

Thanks all. Karen I belong to a State of NH "birder's list," which alerts you via email from other members to various sightings in my state. If you have one in your area I would highly recommend you join.

The "listers" have been reporting on the NHO for over a week now. This species hunts in the day and has no fear of humans, so getting close is no problem.

If he is still there on Monday I will go back and hopefully get more images.

Nice job! What you said is very true. These birds have no fear of man and once located will pose beautifully and it's usually possible to go back day after day to photograph them.

We are lucky this year to have one in the city; and at least 2 others within a short drive.

They are so approachable; and seem to be oblivious to our presence, and continue about their normal routine.

Great eye Paul, with that coloring I'd have missed the Owl all together.
