Yes, when AP dumps their staff Nikons for Canon, because Canon is 2 years ahead of Nikon in digital technology it is a very good indication as to what to buy.

Right, because everyone who buys these cameras is a pro, and using pro gear is the most important thing to everyone, so clearly what the pros use is the best way to judge which camera to buy.

Quick! Where's my P65+ back??

I don't disagree with you, but I still wouldn't advise someone to buy a Nikon or a Canon or any other brand based on what pros shoot, unless there's a compelling reason to do so--popularity not being one of them.

I don't remember Howard Dean being that spastic.

Me, neither, except for the 30 year friend who asked me what to buy & then came back with a Nikon. Every time he asks me a technical question about it, I tell him to ask the salesman 'cause I don't know anything about it?

Now THAT serves him right! For his next birthday, you should get him a copy of "The Idiot's Guide to Photography"!

He wouldn't read it. He started out as an artist, has PS7, & says it's too complicated for him. Takes a week every year to go to the Air Races Week & always comes back with crappy images. Some of them were in focus this year, so he's making progress. ;)

After having it for a year, I get this email: "I just learned how to set the date and clock." after I again said, RTFM!
I answered, "Have Diane (wife who is a teacher) give you a gold star!"
He got pi$$ed & says he won't ask any more cam questions, so that worked out well! For about a year. :D

Funny question.
Funny criteria for the decision.

I shoot with Nikon shooters and Canon shooters. I was teaching one of my buds (Nikon shooter) how, where and when to shoot surfers/skim boarders this weekend. He chimps my shots and says "Damn those are outstanding shots"...why don't you shoot Nikon.

I laughed and said the Nikon rep gave me some new gear to shoot. D700/70-200 2.8 VR/ 14-24 2.8, SB 900. My opinion was very nice but very heavy and the menuing system had too many choices (overly complicated IMHO) with too many buttons all over the place.
But it produced nice shots.

However...I get great shots with my Canon gear for less money and maybe I'm too old to have to learn a lot more menuing stuff. Unless Nikon made it _easier_ to take better pictures regardless of my feeble attempts to do so...I would rather save the money.

Lotsa stuff, running outta room and a wife...I keep looking at her and wondering???
