I was thinking about what camera to upgrade to and I really like all the bells and whistles the 50D comes with, but then again the 5D's Full frame is also why I want to upgrade... Does all the new tech of the 50D justify picking it over the 5D's FF? What would you do and why? OR should I just be without a camera for awhile and save up the rest for a 5d MRK II?

If you do mostly portraits and indoors events (non-sports). The 5DMkII would be my choice. If you shoot ANY sports (indoors/outdoors) then the 50D it would be my choice.

I would get a 50D unless you can justify the cost for the 5D Mark II, but really the only difference is a larger sensor. The 50D is a great camera, if not get a 40D. The only feature compelling about the 50D for me is the LCD screen. Regardless, each will be a great upgrade from the 450D.

5D over the 50D any day of the week. Don't go without a camera, that's silly :p.

Agree on the 5D. You said recently you have $5-$6K tax refund coming - that would easily cover a 5D Classic, even a MK II.

You also mentioned a couple days ago you were getting a used 5D - did that fall through?

Given unlimited money to upgrade, I'd go with the 1d MkIII and 1Ds MkIII. The 1D for its fps and AF and the 1Ds for the full frame sensor...

But since I don't have unlimited money, I would get a 5DII for the full frame. I'm perfectly content with my 40D for the fps.

You make it seem that like you can't shoot sports AT ALL with a 5D mark II.

If you really want to shoot sports, you want a 1D series. If you want a solid all around camera, get the 5D mark II.

The 50D/ 5D debate depends on whether you want to purchase a used camera or buy new with the latest xxD gizmos.

if you need reach for wildlife or sports, a crop body is usually better. If not, full frame.

You can't upgrade.

You chose your username, now you are stuck with the camera that goes with it.

Unless you change it to Rebel450D_InRehab, of course.

I never said you CAN'T shoot sports with a 5DMkII...I *said* ...I would CHOOSE a 50D for sports over a 5DMkII.

Do actually handle each cameras in store

IMO the 5D produces a different quality image, but really the biggest arrguement is iif yoiu use UWA lenses most get the 5D , if you use long lenses mostly get the 50D

LOL what a question. I used to have an XSi (it was my first DSLR) but since I'm a gearhead, I upgraded it to 5D (for 2 weeks), then I realized that 5D wasn't what I wanted (note the word "wanted" I don't need any DSLR, it's just a hobby)...

I primarily shoot anything everything but I enjoy shooting wildlife and sports most. And, 50D seems to fit me best. Thus, the short ownership of 5D.

I bought 5D used locally to upgrade from the XSi. I used it for only 2 weeks and I realized that I need all the reach from the 1.6 crop factor I can get. Don't get me wrong, 5D was awesome. But I have a Sigma 70-200mm, which is 70-200mm on 5D but 112-320mm on crop bodies.

Additionally, I still own 3 APS-C lenses and it'd be too much of a hassle for me to totally revamp my lens lineup. I'm lazy like that :p

I guess bottom line is to go with full frame if you like portrait and landscape and crop body if you like wildlife and sports.
