On my 20D, when I would focus using autofocus, the focus point would light in the viewfinder. On my 5D MK2, this is not the case. It seems to focus fine, but I really like having the focus point(s) light up. Is this normal?

I thought about it some more and realized that I had all focus points selected whereas, on my 20D, I generally used only the center focus point. :o

Edit: Ok, so I dug out the 20D and found that when all the focus points are selected the ones that the camera actually focuses on do light up and this is not the case on my 5D MK2. So, I guess the question now is whether this behavior when all focus points are selected is normal.

Do you have your 5D set in AI Servo instead of One Shot mode? I don't think that the AF indicators light up when shooting in AI Servo mode.

Thanks Mike. I did and changed it and it made no difference. I also checked my 20D and it worked in AI Servo mode.

i could be wrong, but if it is the case, maybe you turned that indication off.

I'll check. Do the focus points light up on yours when you have all of them selected?

Focus points light up just fine on my 5DmkII. You must have some setting turned off. Search for the "superimposed" option. That turns the light off or back on. You want the superimposed image. That will make the squares blink red on autofocus and on selection.

My superimposed image function is on. The focus points light up just fine when I select a specific point, but when I have all of them selected, none of them light up when focus is achieved. Thanks for the tip though.

The default behavior is when all focus points are active, when you half press the shutter, the points that achieve focus will light up red. This can be turned off, I forget exactly where. The answer is in your manual. I have found it useful to download the PDF version of the manual, which gives you the Search function, so you can view all the pages that have the phrase "active focus points" or "focus confirm light" or something like that.

Thanks beepclick, I believe that's the same setting that Blue S2 pointed out - the "superimposed" option. It seemed strange to me that the focus points would light up when I selected an individual one, but not when I selected all of them so I started playing around with different things. I may be on to something, but I've got to finish watching the Steelers game before I pursue it further. Thanks for your help!
