Have been 'chasing' this fella for the past couple of weeks without much success. Seems it likes to hunt during the day time / very early afternoon & finally managed to get some today whilst it was 'posing'.

Well caught, looks like high iso? they do seem to be suffering with some noise.

Thanks stifler - yep, unfortunately had to crank up the ISO to even get a decent shutter speed as the light wasn't that good using the 500.
I think I can live with the noise tho' - just happy to have got one or two that weren't blurred for a change.

Very well done under such low lighting. I sure hope to have the chance to photograph one of these beauties in my lifetime. Sad to hear the high numbers that fall victim to cars and trucks.

Nice shots, wish I could get the Barn Owls round here to co-operate!

I've been searching for a pair of Snowy Owls for weeks now and haven't seen anything but snow and more snow.
Glad to see you had luck to shoot a barnOwl over several days.

Thanks for all the comments.
It seems to appear at the same time each day so far this past week, so I think it may have established its own territory & occasionally I've been fortunate enough to see two of them together which makes me wonder whether they're a mating pair.
The previous Owl that used to 'haunt' around here had a ring on its leg, whereas this one doesn't.

Saw the Barn Owl again this afternoon (hadn't had much time to physically go looking during the week, but certainly hadn't seen it from the bedroom windows). Taken just before 4pm this afternoon and just before it started raining again.
These are probably a bit noisy but had to whack the ISO up to 1000 to get 1/160 @ F5.

Wow, consider yourself lucky to get so many shots. I haven't seen or heard one since I was a kid.

Thanks Thumbsup.
Up until about 3 to 4 years ago I'd never seen one in the wild here either, then was "gobsmacked" to see one first thing in the morning fly past my window.
On and off, we've had one or sometimes a pair, hunt the fields behind my house for the past couple of years on a somewhat sporadic basis.
Sadly at least 2 of them have been found dead, so I'm really happy a 'new' one has arrived to stake its territory and hope that this one survives a lot longer.
