I did a project for my high school shooting 10 guys for the senior talent show. I just got my alien bees a few days back and I was excited to put them to use on real subjects. These were not models in any way and needed a lot of coaching. It was a blast though.

AB800 directly right of subject
AB800 directly left of subject
AB1600 to camera right above subject

I have to admit, when I first ride the title I assumed you just got a 6-pack and couldn't wait to show it off.

I think you'd benefit by moving the left light back a bit. I think some rim lighting would help separate him from the background. Otherwise I think it's good!

Agree with Ainoko - you need some separation from the background. The light on the left could be raised up high and put behind the subject to provide some rim lighting and serve as a hair light providing some separation - however this is a great start. Also consider a small background light. As this is a fashion/talent show, you need to clearly show the outfits, etc.

BTW - nice pose

I agree. Several placed on the clothing blend in with the background.

However for a first try this is very good!

I agree totally. If I could do it again, I would have a stronger hair light.

LOL, i just got that. No Alien Bees, but I'm sure you figured that out.

BTW, this is not a fashion show, it was supposed to highlight the guys, not the clothing.

Just umbrellas.
It took a lot of test shots to get the lighting right and the power right as well.
