Nice shot and good symmetry! I have tried similar shots too and find that the narrow DOF gives good results!

Does not work at all for me. It took me a few seconds to find the point that is in focus. And when I did find it, there was nothing there. Try to put the focus point at something of interest. At the nut, at the bridge, just over a pick up, or over an inlay if you have some. But at just some random point on the neck is very uninteresting.
