I am about to purchase another battery for my 5D2. I am thinking of buying a third party battery instead of a genuine Canon one (i.e., LP-E6), as the Canon one is extremely expensive (i.e., $79.95 at B&H
), and worst yet, it's always out of stock at B&H.
My only concern, hence my question, is whether third party batteries for 5D2 will be able to communicate with the camera as the LP-E6 would do.
"The LP-E6 Battery also communicates with the EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera, so that you can always check the remaining capacity on the camera's power source info screen. In addition, a unique feature of the LP-E6 battery pack is that it has a microchip encoded with an 8-character serial number. So when the battery pack is installed in the camera, you can register it using a menu command. Then track the condition and power characteristics of up to 6 batteries in your camera to ensure you use your batteries evenly and identify batteries that are near the end of their useful lifespan. "
I would like to hear from those who are currently using third party batteries with their 5DII's. I also would like to know what brands you are using and whether you like them or not.
Thanks!!!
