Getting my very first "L" (from the PTON Sell Forum) to go with my recent 50D body upgrade. This will be my general walk around lens to replace the 17-85 IS I've been using for 4 years. Looking forward using my first L! I've already started my list of L replacements for the other lenses in my bag since I know I'm going to be impressed with the switch right?

Wow - just looked at my stats and I joined this forum back in 2004 when I finally went digital and can't believe I haven't posted more - love reading all the comments and will have to become more active.

50D (gripped), 20D, 24-105 f4 L IS, EF-S 17-85 IS USM (getting ready to sell), EF 50 1.8 (want an upgrade to the 1.4), New EF 85 1.8 on the way - need a long zoom!

Sounds like that focal length will be great for a walkaround!

Well duh - guess I forgot to mention which lens. It's the 24-105L f4 IS.

Congratulations on getting a great lens! It too is my walk around lens that gets the most amount of use. You'll love it.

Of course now you'll have ti get a 10-22 Non-L to cover the wide end, and a 100-400L to cover the long end.

PLUUUUS a new bag to accommodate all your gear...then you'll get sick of changing lenses, so you'll have to get a used 40D or another new 50D...

Congrats on your new lens.... But ....24mm may feel a bit narrow on a crop, its a great lens for FF but on a cropped sensor like the 50D its not wide enough imo.

Me and my shooting partner have just swapped from 40D to 5D MKII and he had the 24-70mm for a while on his 40D before getting the 5D MKII (shot our last 4 weddings of last year with it) and stuggled with it as it was neither wide enough or long enough on a crop body..... 24mm is a great starting point on a FF as its very slightly wider than 17mm on a crop, but 24mm on a crop isnt very wide.

He had the 10-22mm on his spare 40D body and I have never sene him shoot as many images with it, he just wasnt finding the 24-70mm wide enough on a crop.

100-400L is definitely on the list ;-)a. My next body upgrade will be full frame, so going towards the EF instead of EF-S options. I have a friend with the 10-22 and she does enjoy it.
