As I've said before on other threads, the only people who really give a stuff about pictures and cameras, is photographers....everybody else just wants to see a "nice picture", but they don't really know what a "nice picture" is!!!

bravo bravo....i wish you could see me literally standing in applause

with that being said...i just bought my 50D today :) !!! (hell im getting too old to look at the small LCD on my 10d (woowoo yeah for me)...i bought it ebay new..so in 10-12 days this forum is gonna get swamped with new shots...(sorry for the hi-jack)

It's nice to know that my ineptitude in the darkroom transfers over to the digital world...

i like both shots, but the selective color on 2 objects does seem to confuse me. kinda like i don't know what the main focus of the shot is. i think if just the flower were selected, or just the cup, then that would work better for me. so for now, color wins for me. good work!

Thanks for that. I honestly don't know why so many people on this forum get so orgasmic about gear. It's kinda cool to have the latest whizz-bang (congrats on the 50D btw!) but I'm sure Freud would have something to say on the suject!!!
Truthfully though, I even mentioned this about my cousin's wedding tog. Excuse my language, but he was a complete and utter w#*%#&er! Total rip-off, and yet his marketing skills got him a load of money from my poor ol' cuz who, despite being an artist, doesn't "get" photography.
Rant over!

Thanks for the comment. The whole point was to reduce the sheer pain to the eyes that all the oversaturated kimono pink was causing. I thought the flower and cup balanced each other....so the focus isn't on a "thing", it's on the limitation of a colour.
I actually made a series of prints for Maya-chan with various shots, so, in context I think the cup-flower shot worked better than presenting it on here, even with the full-colour displayed, too.
Or maybe I'm talking poo....?
;)

Sorry but I would probably prefer to see just one of the items coloured too. I think the cup. It's a lovely pic thought.

gotcha... one last comment on the selective colored one: i think if the flower has color it needs a bit more focus. but i get your point on limiting the color a little. :)

Hey hecster. Yeah....you've got a good point there. I suppose if it hadn't been an on-the-spot opportunity, I could have had a moment or two to spin the aperture setting up more, to increase the DoF, but as it was, I lifted the camera and snapped, two, maybe three frames before Maya-chan stopped drinking. And that was that.
:(

Pretty girl though, and I was so pleased that my wife (unconsciously) gave her a tea-cup that matched her hair-dressing and kimono.
