It's been awhile since I posted. Sorry to have been away so long but after a 3 week bout with the flu combined with lousy weather, it hasn't been great birding for me lately.

However, I finally got out today with the new gear... (Canon 50D, Gitzo tripod and Wemberley head) ...and here are the results.

As always, C&C are welcome. Thanks for looking.

I used my 500mm f/4 for these shots. I think I was a little too close to the bluebirds. I would have liked a little more background. Thanks for the comments.

Congratulations on the 50D and these fine shots! I am away from home and haven't used my camera at all. I can't wait to get back home and start shooting again. I love my 50D.

Hi, Kris!
Which Gitzo did you use for these images? I'm in the market for a suitable tripod. I've already decided on the new version Wimberly head. But was unsure which Gitzo to get. There area so many models; it can confusing. The GT5541LS was recommended to me, but it is close to $900. I need to support my 400 2.8 and the 600 f4. Both are quite large and heavy, but you have a heavy 500 f4 and seem to have no problem with sharpness. I've heard that tripods with center columns can lead to instability - have you found this to be true? If there's something you know of that's more in the $500-$600 range that will still work very well with large lenses, please let me know. If not, then I guess I'll be getting that GT5541LS.
Thanks, Tom

"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
