I always bring a set of lenses on such occasions. It used to be 28-50-85 F/1.8s, but now it is 24L-50L-85L. And it doesn't matter whether I bring a 40D or 5D, I use the same set . I just end up with more tightly cropped shots with the 40D, that's the only difference .

Nice big field of view, but a little more distortion than I would like for portraits of family members.
