Hi Everyone,

Does anybody know when the next Canon lens rebates will be in the UK? I am after a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS and a 24-70mm f/2.8 and I remember there being about £50 off each of them last year. I regret not buying them before the prices went up but I've only just saved the money up now :( I want the lenses, but will wait if there's going to be cashback in the next few months...

I've just noticed that the 24-70mm has gone up from £775 to £849 at Warehouse Express and the lens has gone up by about the same amount on Ebay :( I might leave it for now and just go for the 70-200mm!

Most Canon (and Nikon etc.) lenses have just gone up - something to do with the pound/dollar/euro/yen currency markets (or they just wanted the excuse to up the prices.....)

Yeah, I know what you mean! I decided to go for the 70-200mm off kerso on ebay earlier today from a quote from last week :) but looking at online stores I'm glad I didn't decide to wait for cashback - there's no point getting £50 cashback if the lens has gone up by £80!!!

2008's rebates ran from March to June i believe, but whether they do the same this year remains to be seen.

The retailers are announcing their profits to the city so they push their prices up to increase the value of their stock. They all do it, they will come down again they have to, i mean who is going to buy a lens that was £200 cheaper a week ago!!

I vouch for Ian/Kerso i got my 35L from him a week ago- tis the Dogs Royals!

Just a day after considering getting the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS off Warehouse Express it has gone from £1289 to £1529!!! Ebay is a lifesaver :) And if you think that's bad, the 1d Mk3 has gone from £2299 to (drumroll) £2999!

They really are having a laugh with these increases. You'd have to be mad to consider buying any gear from a UK store until reality returns.

quite agree, trying to maintain proft margins in such times is a nice objective for canon UK, but people just won't spend on what is to 99% of the population a luxury. If they want to maintain sales they need to be more flexible on the GP they make. These lenses don't cost anywhere near these retail prices to make.

It's amazing some of the reasons people make up to explain these price changes, especially when the real answer is so obvious and so simple.

Canon haven't raised their prices. When these lenses leave the factories in the Far East they're gonna be priced very close to where they have been for quite a while. What's happened is the exchange rate has changed horribly.

Let's take the example of a lens that cost 200,000 Yen. Back in August this would have translated into around £900. At today's exchage rate it equates to £1600. If Canon continue to sell it for £900 they're only getting 112,500 Yen. No company can afford to drop its prices by over 40%, so the price in the UK has to be increased.
