Here 'ya go Vinny. I slid the umbrella shaft all the way out to make it easier to see what I was talking about in these pix. Also, I stacked several ND gels on there to make them more visible in the snapshot.

That's exactly what I used to do George. I used 2 stop ND gels and It worked like a charm.

I just bought an AB800! I love it so far. I just got 2 WL 10,000's. I want to get some grids and gels. But i want to be able to use them for both my alienbee and my WL's. Do you guys know if the standard 7" will work for both?

No Problem at all. Any reflector or light modifier you can use with an AB works with a WL and vice versa.

What about Einsteins? Because I'm thinking of getting litemod mainframes and I think I will eventually get Einsteins in the future.

PCB is maintaining the Balcar mount in the Einstein's.

AB=WL=E :D

Well, not quite. The 10,000's and 5,000's are the original White Lightning "coffee can" designs with integrated reflectors.

IMAGE: http://www.soundadviceblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/wl10klighting.jpg

The 7" grids, gels, barndoors and anything having to do with the LiteMod system WILL work with the 10k/5k, as will any modifier that mounts like an umbrella (i.e., it has a shaft), but that's it. The 10k/5k do NOT have any provision for mounting a speedring for use with a softbox (I know you didn't ask about this, but here it goes anyway) or for any other reflector than the permanently attached 7" reflector. If you want to use a softbox with your 10k, you have to buy a special "speedring adapter" that looks like an "X" with a bar through it. The bar goes through the umbrella mount on the WL 10k, and the arms of the "X" sit against the sides of the reflector. The 10k speedring adapter is available from PCB here at the bottom of the page (external link). It works with most "standard" softboxes (i.e. any softbox with a removable speedring) but not the PCB foldables since their speedrings are not removable.

As far as I know, any other WL's subsequent to the original 10k/5k series have the same speedring/reflector mount that the AB's do.

Also, side note, the Einstein is having its price bumped to $500 (external link) but they are still taking pre-orders at $439 and will honor that price until the price increase is formally announced.

I stand correct. Any of the current production models have the same Balcar mount.
