First time practicing with my alien bee B800. Wife would kill me if she knew I posted these on the net. She was ready for bed and I dragged her down to be my subject!

This is my first time shooting with my alien bee so any pointers would be very very welcome especially when it comes to flash power. I found a 1/16 - 1/4 power to be very useful in this situation.

Lots to learn about proper exposure, but I have the simple basics of aperture controls flash and shutter controls ambient. Tried to make our unfinished white drywall basement wall black.

I had to get fairly far away from the wall to turn them black. Probably about 16 feet with the alien bee positioned fairly close to my wife

Random outtake of me jumping on the seamless. Taken by my buddy, edited by me.

I am looking for an inexpensive boom stand that can carry AB800 plus beauty dish or soft box. Any recommendations? Thanks

Cowboystudio sells one on Amazon for around $60 bucks... that's about the cheapest youre going to find that will support this.. otherwise you're looking at $120+

I wouldn't go too "cheap" on the boom stand combo especially if you're going to be using strobes over someone's head. Hate to see that bump if it fell.
