I want to keep the politics out of this, and I just wanted to say that right now I am very proud of my country.

Given the context, I believe this is a political discussion thread and it can turn ugly.

I was proud to be an American long before today, unlike some folks (I won't mention any names). :D

Then you wouldn't have posted this.

I am proud of the American philosophy, just not our current regime.

Reasons I am proud to be an American - by Eric

Because my neighbor spends most of his days off at the Catholic Charities feeding the homeless.

Because today in Afganistan there is a Marine delivering books to a school so that a little girl can learn to read and write.

Because of the farmer who works every day but Sunday to put food on my table and to provide for his family.

Because a father is able to see his son be the first person in his family to gradute from College.

Because fireman and policemen rush into places they shouldn't have to go to protect you and I.

These things are not political, they aren't confused by party lines. They are universal, they have value and they are the things that make me swell up with pride.

It is heartening to see so many people so hopeful about the future.
Hopefully the politicians will allow the country and world to heal a bit before they start their foolishness back up.

The Obamas are a very appealing family. From strictly a photographer's point of view, they are, if nothing else, at least photogenic.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

True, but much more is at stake than how photogenic is the president.

That sums it up beautifully.

I've always been proud to be an American.

OK, I should have restated my original post. I am, and have always been, a very proud American and extremely proud of my country. Just like I always love my family. But sometimes things happen where it makes one want to express this pride more than they normally would. That is all I meant.

As for keeping it non-political, I meant that. I did not want my post to imply that I was only proud of America due to who we elected president. I was watching the inauguration today, and just like the last couple inaugurations, it always makes me proud with the tradition of passing the torch, so to speak. Yes, I am proud that the country was able to look past race to elect a president, but that has nothing to do with the original post. I was merely expressing that I was moved by the proceedings. I should have been more clear, some people who responded should have been less assumptive.

eddarr- I really like that post BTW. Those are only a few of the traits that make this country so amazing, and I agree you every last one of them and they make me proud as well.

You know if you post someone involving the country on inauguration day politics is inevitable.

You just about summed it up right there Eric. I am proud every single day. If I wasn't, I wouldnt have had my mom sign so I could join the military 8 days after turning 17.

Thanks guys. Those words came to me so easily today. They were not meant to give anyone else a hard time. But I felt they needed to be said.

+1

I'll reserve my opinion about the 44th president until the surreal soap opera here in Illinois comes to an end.
