Canon lenses getting more expensive

I just looked on Amazon and the lenses have increased. I purchased the 17-40L around 1/2/09 for $619 through Adorama and now it's $685. The price has went up intraday as well. It was $638 around 9:00am central time. I'm glad I bought it when I did because it's went up 11% since I bought it 2.5 weeks ago. Looks like the price increases are hitting the US through Amazon.

yup..a lot of electronics companys prices have gone up. panasonic announced a 30% increase recently.

There's no way I can afford to buy gear now, because used prices are going to increase as well. I'm glad I got my 2 L glasses when I did. I want the 135L, but not at the current price it's being offered at. That would give me the focal range that I would want.

makes sense, when nobody can afford to buy anything, raise prices. good marketing.

They are in a tough spot as well. They can't really lower prices, because what it's costing them to make the product is expensive. Manufacturers are getting it from both ends. If they raise prices inventory stacks up, but if they lower prices they could very easily have a very small bottom line or a negative bottom line. Once they factor out raw materials to make the goods and the salaries and indirect cost they don't make much. I would definitely support Canon dropping prices 10-20%. I'd buy a couple of L's, but not where the economy is going now and the fact prices have increased.

I bought my 17-55 from B&H on 12/17/08 for $850. Today they are selling it for $1030!!!

I'm glad I bought my brick when I did as well. Got it used from the forum, but it's jumped a couple of C notes since I bought I bought it. My copy is just as good as a new copy. My 17-40 even has a 11/2008 date code. In that regards I'm glad I definitely got it when I did.

Nikon is also raising their prices soon; some things by as much as 25%! Leica is raising their prices this month also.

Makes so much sense... The economy is in the sh!tter and people have no money to buy things like camera gear... So raise the price!

Meh. I'm done anyway.

If I'm lucky I can sell my gear second hand for more than I paid for it new...
Photographic gear is a better investment than shares...

I am glad they raised the price otherwise I don't have an excuse not to buy.

Are the prices just going up because the winter rebate period has ended? There should be another rebate period starting in April, I think...

All the lens prices here in Canada went up a few weeks ago. Some things went up due to the loonie, now things are going up again just cuz they feel like it.. or whatever reason they might have. Sucks cuz I've been saving my pennies for the 100-400

Price raised for me in Paris too. But it is sooooo cheap to buy in US and UK due to €/£ and €/$ parity !!!!!

i doubt the used prices will increase much. used prices are actually lower now than i've ever seen and i think as the economy worsens you'll see used and new prices drop.

but as i've said before it'll be a case of "be careful what you ask for " .
