I will be taking a trip to the DC area and I'm looking for a bag that will hold my MKIII (24-70L mounted), 70-200 F/4, 580EX II and extra battery. I'm not sure I want a backpack... I like some of the shoulder bags that are out but I dont know what will work best.

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Rob~

My favorite bag is the 7 Million Dollar Home. It fits 1dmkiii, 16-35, 70-200 f2.8IS, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 430ex, 5x8 writing pad and pens, lens pens, blowers, card reader, flash and sd cards, hell, i can even stuff my xt with 17-85 if i pack it right.

Best backpack i know of is the Kata R103. Fits exactly into an airplane seat, holds all the above as well. More padding and protection than you can imagine, but also slightly heavier. But the straps on that thing are amazing, your legs get tired before your back.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I use the Tamrac Velocity 9 because it's a backpack that swings around to be a side bag so you can get at your gear without removing the pack.

The 1DMK3 fits nicely down the middle with the 70-200/2.8IS attached and hood reversed. In addition, I also have in my pack the 24-70L, 430EX, cleaning supplies, flash cards, extra batteries. I can fit all of my gear in the bag, cycle to a location, then swing it around and grab my camera/change lenses, all without removing the bag.

It's water repellent and I think I only paid about $60 when I bought it a few years ago. It also has straps on the sides so you can add additional cases for say, lenses (I eventually added a Lowepro case to give me even more room).

Thanks for that tip! I've been looking for a bag to fit my 1DMIIN, a few lenses, my 5D body and my laptop. I just ordered the Stealth Reporter 650. I was shopping for a small laptop bag that I could carry my MBP 17 in but this bag will eliminate one bag for me to tote around.

Domke F-2 will work plus you'll have room for other things. Just get the double divider instead of the quad.

I'm going to go for a Domke F-4AF, with similar gear to yours.

Check out the Domke F-3x or maybe F-4AF. The F-2 will leave you with room for stashing souvenirs etc. as well.

Are there any detailed photos of any of the Domke bags? What has frustrated me about the 1 Domke bag that I do have is that I had to order the bag, then order different inserts two times before I could use it. I don't understand how they can charge such a premium price and the bag not come with everything that you need to configure it for your equipment.

Basroil, will the 1D3 fit ready to go with a 70-200L mounted (ie, face down, and ready to remove and shoot?)

Also have a look at the Tenba Messenger (comes in both small and large model) - looks like a brilliant bag. I ordered mine yesterday!

Well if you are in the US you should be able to order directly from their website (tenba.com). I'm in Europe (Norway), so I ordered mine through a shop I found in their reseller list; teamworkphoto.com. The order is still pending, but hopefully things will be set in motion today. :)

Edit/PS: Just got a reply back from them today saying they are waiting for stock, which is due in approx 7-10 days. RAAH! :'(
