If the Sigma were priced lower and had an HSM focus motor it would be more competitive,. as is I find it not to be a worth while alternative,.. at least by US pricing ..

the 100-400mm is definately worth the extra $$ for a lens you will keep forever.

Please take a look at the -=TOP 10=- Lens recomendation section at the top of the forum.. in particular check the -=TOP 10=- Wildlife zooms... and Sport Zooms and see how the 100-400mm absolutely dominates the recomendations...

The Sigma ,. alas was not even popular enough to make the list.

Lastly,. I am going to edit the title of your thread,. as "Canon Vs. Sigma" is in fact a totally different subject from the comparison of two individual lenses ;)

Tried out the Sigma for a day. Slow as treacle running up hill. OS is not as good as IS, slower to react. Contrast very poor compared to the Canon. Sigma failed on this one.

I see that an ebay seller here in australia was offering the sigma at a stunningly low price.I was abit tempted.

I just went through that thread shown above-very interesting!
The sigma is actually sharper?! (less contrast tho-no surprise being a sigma, they seem to like making them that way)
