First things first, the 30D AF is AWESOME! Compared to my XTi, it was just amazing.

Flickriver link. (external link)

It was an awesome game, comments and critique welcome. I used the 70-200 f/2.8 + 30D and Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 + XTi.

There were tons of pros there with 300mm primes and 1D's and what not. It was fun.

Please tell me my mistakes as this is only my 3rd game I've shot.

not bad, you got better pics than i did at that game. It was my first time shooting basketball. I'll be there this weekend for the GA tech game. I'm actually in your pictures img_8153 i'm the only one left on the floor in front of the student section in the orange and white polo

Those are nice. Can you post the EXIF? I'm interested in seeing what aperture you used. Your depth of field seems well chosen... all players are in focus. Were any of those shots from XTi+Tamron or all 40D/70-200?

I think they turned out great! I would crop a little tighter and you need to watch your horizons, but they are nice shots!

j_brevard: Nice! hope to meet you at some game, I won't be there this weekend, although I'm going to shoot the vs/ Florida State on Feb 7th.

clarence: The shots posted are from both the combos. EXIF is intact on all photos, just lcick for the flickr page.

superdiver: Thanks :) I agree about the horizon, I seem to overlook it. I'm yet to understand what makes a good crop for the sports shots. I naturally tend to think along the rule of third's.

Thanks :)

I missed out on the vs/Wake Forest. Too bad the streak was broken.

I crop tight personally, but for pics I put on my site for people to buy I crop big cuz they usually screw the cropping up and cut of parts and pieces of their players. If I give them tons of room they have a chance to do it right.

Cropping is a personal thing I think.... some like it tight, some like it wide...

I think I'm gonna take some time getting used to a crop I like. I'm sticking to the general rules though, chopping off at joints etc.

How were you able to get permission to shoot the game?
