Kevin, I'm so sorry. Definitely get home this weekend. You don't want any regrets later.

I would move heaven and earth to make that happen. You don't want to leave a hole that big in your life.

Best of luck on getting back soon.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Good call!

Are you feeling a little dirty?

Jealous, are you?

I went with the F-802.

Yep. That's actually the one I had with me when you were in DC last spring.

I do believe that is one of the models that carries the Jon seal of approval.

Most certainly is!

He's apparently using the left-handed model of whatever body that is.

Nope - but he's got the classic "P&S hold" down pat. Yet another person who'll "need the grip because the camera's too small for my hands" when really they're just holding it all wrong.

Hey guys. My dad just called to tell me he took my black lab, Annie, to the vet and found out she has diabetes and cancer. There's nothing they can really do to treat the cancer because of the diabetes, so she'll have to be put to sleep sometime soon. :(

I got her about ten years ago for my birthday. My sister came with me and helped me pick her out. It's one of the last happy memories I have of my sister, because a short time later cancer took her away. So this is a double whammy, it's like I'm losing my sister all over again in addition to my dog.

I just hope I get some time to go home and see her again before it's too late.

So sorry to hear that.

Yea, I remember. Plus the add on side pouches correct?

I am still amazed how much stuff seems to fit in these things from what I have seen with you and in various reviews. I am looking forward to working out a packing method for my gear :).

I'll have to look up these Domke bags... I really need a new one, something easy to take with me when hiking about, and something I can attach my tripod to too.

Hiking? Then you don't want a typical Domke. Maybe the F-2 or F-3 Backpack models. But there's not really provisions even on them for attaching a tripod. Domke bags are for working out of while you're on the scene, not toting long distances with little photo activity. I attach the Tenba backpack strap to my bigger Domkes so I can backpack them more readily.

I agree. My daughter's long time cat died when she was away for one summer. It took her a very long time to get over that.

I can empathize with Kevin in a fresh way -- yesterday afternoon I got a call from my grandson, broken-hearted because his cat, a pregnant young mother-to-be, had been hit by a car and killed. The driver was going fast through a residential neighborhood and didn't bother to stop.

My grandson is a 16-year-old guy, but was in tears when he called, and was alone in the house. I made the trip to Portland and we buried her in the back yard and spent the afternoon out getting some closure. She was loved.

Kevin, make the trip. It will be painful -- pets become part of the family and then are usually the first to go, although the poignant connection with your sister is hard to fathom. But, like someone said earlier, don't just let an empty hole stay there without some coverage beginning.

Yup, I hear you Tony. When our dog was stolen, my wife hasn't really had closure of it. So it pains her all the time - not like i am a heartless git, but it does affect me too, just more so on her. Worthwhile going up there, despite how painful it can be.

Profit indeed, but also compatibility. Imagine trying to introduce a new keyboard layout. Every once in a while some 'genius' does, and guess what? The world ignores them..... we are too entrenched on our existing layout.

There are alternatives though, some folks have been using mini-DIN connectors, household plug connectors, and then some. I'd like to see something like USB-A, it would survive a lot of abuse, but some twit is bound to plug USB into it and try and find out what it does.

Check out Strobist.blogspot.com for his recommendations about household connectors. I think I even saw recommendations for hotshoe-to-household adapters that completely eliminate the need for you to use PC Sync.

Me use optical slave, easiest, cheapest ($5 each on ebay) and most reliable ;)

I picked up a set of Skyports from Lisa a while back and they didn't come with the right cable to hook them up to my Novatron pack. I needed a household plug at one end and a 1/8" plug at the other. I made a cable out of a PC--> HH cable I had. I just cut the PC connector off and soldered a 1/8" phone plug in it's place. Worked like a charm...

Mooooo all

Was messing around last night taking pictures of the Hancock center from my window. I zoomed in 10x with live view to focus, and actually saw people moving around on the observation deck and camera flashes going off  Thought that was kinda neat.

In other news, it looks as if I have sold my 300 for real this time (knock on wood). The payment has been sent and received. Now I just need to get done with school stuff today so I can get home and package it up for the buyer.
