I met an honest-to-goodness Nikon camera snob in Las Vegas on Thursday. I was sitting in the mall on a bench. A fellow sat down next to me, and I noticed he had one of the tiny Nikon DSLRs. (D40 maybe?). Anyway, I figured the camera would be a good ice-breaker, so I asked him how he liked his camera.
It was like opening up the flood gates. He talked on and on about what a fantastic camera it was, and how he gets such amazing shots with it, and how he's going to shoot his niece's wedding, etc., etc.. I asked if he had any other lenses (looked like a kit lens on the camera), and he said he had is eye on a 75-300 at a store that was going out of business, but he was waiting for the discounts to go a little higher. I asked him if the store was Ritz, and he said it was.
I asked why he had bought a Nikon, and how he had decided on that particular camera in particular.
He explained that Nikon was the only company making good cameras, and that was the only brand real professionals ever used.
For a minute, I though I'd sat down next to Ashton Kutcher. This guy had definitely drunk the Kool-Aid.
Figuring I was about to become either ill or rude, I excused myself and wandered down to the Apple Store and changed some more browsers.
