You need to fix your relatively-not-current-any-longer gearlist ;)

Yeah. I've got a couple other changes coming, so I'll wait and do it all at one time.

Oh I think that camera is far to big for what I need. I like the size and feel of the 40D/5D. plus I am on the hunt for a car.

I saw the Canucks lose to Chicago tonight in the playoffs -- I feel like I should express my condolences to some people.

Windows 7 preview is out again next week, I hear.

Hmmmm.... why does it suddenly pique my interest? For years I have greeted every Windows release with profound misgivings, not enthusiasm. Yet strangely, I am kinda enthusiastic about this one.

I met an honest-to-goodness Nikon camera snob in Las Vegas on Thursday. I was sitting in the mall on a bench. A fellow sat down next to me, and I noticed he had one of the tiny Nikon DSLRs. (D40 maybe?). Anyway, I figured the camera would be a good ice-breaker, so I asked him how he liked his camera.

It was like opening up the flood gates. He talked on and on about what a fantastic camera it was, and how he gets such amazing shots with it, and how he's going to shoot his niece's wedding, etc., etc.. I asked if he had any other lenses (looked like a kit lens on the camera), and he said he had is eye on a 75-300 at a store that was going out of business, but he was waiting for the discounts to go a little higher. I asked him if the store was Ritz, and he said it was. I asked why he had bought a Nikon, and how he had decided on that particular camera in particular.

He explained that Nikon was the only company making good cameras, and that was the only brand real professionals ever used.

For a minute, I though I'd sat down next to Ashton Kutcher. This guy had definitely drunk the Kool-Aid.

Figuring I was about to become either ill or rude, I excused myself and wandered down to the Apple Store and changed some more browsers.

I admire your restraint. I would have been unable to resist the challenge and would have risen to the bait like a trout to a fly...

It's a good bunch, and I find everyone there to be very friendly. I am having a little trouble finding common ground with most of them, however. No dog. No kids. No abusive spouse. No exotic illnesses. No train photos (there).

I guess there will always be a place for RRTP in my dangerously enlarged heart.

Are you feeling a bit train-deprived? Let me help...

This is an excursion train run by the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (external link) in Campo. They run from their depot down to the border and back on the weekends. This particular consist was two cars with a former USMC yard switcher for power. They also run trains down to Tecate a couple times a month. The Tecate trains are always very popular, but I wonder if they are going to see a drop-off in bookings after the new travel document regulations take effect next month?
