How many megapixels can you get out of an APS frame on your scanner before it starts to go soft? I can get about 8MP out of a 35mm frame (scanner limited) at 2400dpi, so I find cranking up the DPI doesn't help much - it just increases file size without increasing quality.

I can get an easy 20MP out of medium format slide film though...sometimes there is just no substitute for sheer real estate ;)

Of course the 5D2 blows the whole setup out of the water, instant 22MP the moment I click the shutter :D

Not real sure of the total before it maxes out. I tend to do the set and forget thing also. Allows me to go on with other stuff. I still save them as jpgs and try to keep the file size down a little.

I've often thought about ditching the Siggy 30 for the Canon 35L, but I don't use the 30 all that much so I'm not that keen to fork out the cash for the 35L, as much as I'd love to play with one.

Yeah....it's different when you're on full frame.

Occasionally the thought of owning a 50mm bothers me, but I find I don't use it. The 85 on the other hand, now that one is getting closer and closer :)

Hey, check this out...

ISO 3200, -1 EC in cam, pushed +1 in post, custom NR:

I did the same with 12800 but it's not as usable...

6400's passable especially if you downsize a bit, 12800 looks like a hailstorm with purple patchy blotches.

Is this from your 1D2? Not bad for a camera with worse high-ISO noise characteristics than the 350D (yes we did the shootout, yes I got mocked by all the 350D owners :p)

Yep that's all from the 1D2. I'm still working on 12800, and I think 6400 has room for improvement.

Try a 5D one of these days :p

I simply shot RAW, -1EV to 6400, cranked up noise reduction in DPP to max, and it was awesome :p

Your magic could take it even further......

Well when I get my 1Ds II I'm going to be profiling a bunch of stuff for it as well and hope to get very usable results out of it at 6400 and 12800. I really don't like the feel of the 5D or the XXD type bodies, even with a grip.

I've got some slightly better results from the 1D II at 12800:

Yes, I have a Sony Alpha cup. I have no idea where I got it, it just showed up.

25600 is pretty much unusable. Granted, I don't see many situations where I'll be doing this at all, but it's a fun exercise and may have some usage later on. :) 6400 with a bit more tweaking will be perfectly usable. I already have ISO 1600 looking like 400 or so with extremely minimal detail loss, and 3200 is not too bad either.

Pretty uneventful, aside from the usual storms. I was at CVS and had my camera with me and it started pouring outside, and I had to leave to get back home, didn't feel like waiting. All these people with their iPhones and crackberries were standing by the door waiting, I just shrugged and walked out. One guy said "HOLY @#$% HE'S GONNA BREAK HIS CAMERA!"

On Saturday a guy from the roofing company was moving heavy machinery in my apartment complex that he didn't know how to move and got himself killed. :(

You seem to like water.

Fortunately I encounter water a lot less (even though I do live in a place where it rains so hard that the rain pounds on your skull and drums in your brain if you are caught outdoors without an umbrella). I just stay indoors where it's a bit more comfortable.....so I can get by on just a 5D :p (which I do admit is not sealed to the same standard)

Well seeing the reaction when I take a big camera out into apocalyptic rain is pretty hilarious. It's worth it just for that alone! :)
