Okay . . .my 450D will reveal its raw files as a .CR2, detected by Windows Explorer peering into its SD card . . .

likewise LightRoom allows me to "know" I am editing a raw file (from the 450D) by displaying the .CR2 extension -

Enter the kinder, gentler - POINT & SHOOT even - G10 . . .and my computer logic goes TILT! I can NOT "see" the raw file?!

It always dumps/displays the .JPG - but does not appear to be recording the all important and much sought after raw file?

The setting are clearly marked in the REC menu and I am looking right at it marked as "RECORD RAW + L"

It is being operated in MANUAL or Av Tv . . .as I know the GREEN BOX mode dumps any RAW option out of the 450D and will only write a .JPG . . .

I am baffled . . .

I do not have the Canon disk or OEM software, my prefered workflow is through LightRoom which I upgraded to version 2.2

Wise and all knowing photog'ing e-listers gathered around this site - WHAT AM I MISSING?

:o

Lightroom 2.2 is supposed to open the G10 Raw files.

You might try downloading the Canon Camera Raw Codec (external link). and see if it helps. It should allow viewing of the G10 Raw files.

you need to set camera to record RAW in the function/set menu.
press function/set>scroll all the way down>toggle over to RAW.

just setting RAW + JPEG in the Menu will not give you a RAW file.

and yes the G10 RAW files have the extension .CR2
