Well I am surprised. I bought from these guys twice. Had to do phone orders as I was trading in gift cards. Both times, I had the nicest folks on the phone. Personable, knowledgeable, no pressure to up sell. Really remarkable.

WTF? Isn't this an infamous NYC store? Well I am quite happy with them. Just thought I would spread a kind word.

Given the current economic situation, I bet the "infamous" stores don't want to go under either.

It's sink or swim for them too. If they're smart (and no one has ever accused even the worst scam site of being stupid...) they'll play nice for now in the hope they can go back to their less than scrupulous ways when things turn around.

You know, that's a great theory, but they never seem to learn this, right? Some of these guys run so true to form, regardless of the bad name they make for themselves.

It's because there's a new crop of dSLR owners every X number of months (I'm sure they have the demographics charted...) who don't know any better.

POTN is a great resource in this regard but I'm always suprised that when I mention places like POTN, resellerratings.com, DPReview, FM, etc, to other Canon users, I get the 1000 yard stare.

There are a lot of very ignorant (note the lower case "i") people out there who simply can't be bothered to do any "leg work" and save some money.

It annoys me greatly how people will spend a dollar just so they think they're saving a dime.

Eric, J&R is not one of "those" stores from Brooklyn. They are a huge brick and mortar down near city hall. Their camera staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a hell of a lot less hectic than B&H as well, it's just in a part of the city that I hardly ever go to.

I've been buying lots of gear from J&R over the years, they USED to have a bad rep back in the day, but have become a viable alternative in NYC. I've never bought photo gear, always hard to find audio gear there...never had a problem.

I had very nice experiences with them, no complaints and excellent customer service. Took a while to ship out though - longer to leave the store than B&H / Adorama/ Amazon , but I got a good deal and 7% cash back from live.com search.
