Why won't Canon DPP work on my computer???

Sorry if this is in the wrong section

Here's the situation

I had Canon DPP on my old laptop and it worked fine but the screen broke b/c I dropped it. Getting a new one was cheaper than getting it fixed so I got a new one, same brand and everything just a smaller version, and it has all the same software and everything as the old one.

DPP will install onto the new computer but it doesn't open. I've tried installing and uninstalling several times and it's the same each time.

Any ideas? I'm awful with computers, so maybe y'all can help.

Do you get an error message when you try to open it? Is the new computer running the same operating system as the old one?

Is the old one XP and the new one Vista? If so, you may have to download the Vista version from the Canon site.

Not only that, but DPP typically gets updated with each new camera release and sometimes gets new features thrown in too. Personally, I regularly update to the latest versions of everything - DPP, ZoomBrowser and EOS Utility - just because I can

You say "just a smaller version": DPP *insists* on a 1024x768 or higher screen resolution.
If the screen has a lower resolution *in either direction* DPP will not work.

No error message. I double click or right click and open it and nothing happens

I've tried to doing the updates and that didn't work either. Maybe I was doing the wrong ones?

I went from a 17" screen to the 15" screen. Like I said, I'm awful with computers and I'll have to look into the resolution thing.

Most (All?) 15" screens are big enough at native resolution. (which you should use anyway)
