Greetings. I'm looking for a soft bag for my gripped 5D Mk II. I don't usually walk around with my 300 F4, so 70-200 F4IS would be largest lens.

I'm looking at the following bags with their measurements:
\
Tall Wide Deep
Crumpler 7MDH: 11 15 7
Crumpler Brazillion 12 17 9
Domke F2 9 12 6.5

It's hard to tell by the measurements if my rig would fit comfortably with room for a couple accessories. I'm sure the Brazillion Dollar Home would be plenty big, but in the picture I saw (a lady with it slung over shoulder) it looked very large.

I'm thinking the 7MDH would be OK, just not sure what the 7" deep means. Body/grip is about 6.5", so if 7" is exterior dimension, probably too tight.

Anyone using any of these 3 bags have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have the 7MDH with a gripped 5D and 70-200 and it fits fine.

My first post, eek.. :P

I am currently looking for a bag myself, for an EOS 50D w/o grip.

I've been considering the 7MDH, but it's difficult to determine how spacy it'll be in real life / whether it'll be able to fit a DSLR with lenses AND a 15" Mac Book Pro, etc.

Recently I came across a bag from a brand called Tenba in one of the "post your gear" threads here at POTN - and after watching this (link) (external link) YouTube video I am pretty much sold....

More info on the product can be found here:

http://www.tenba.com …ons/31/Messenger/Bag.aspx (external link)

The 'small' model will hold a 15" laptop, camera + a number of lenses and various accessories. The water-resistant bottom is a big pluss, the same goes for the quick access zipper allowing you to access the bag without opening the flap. :D

Here's a POTN review I found:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=448557

It's not one of the 3 you suggested, but I think it's a good alternative so hopefully this will be useful to someone.. :)

the 7mdh wont fit a 15" lappy along with a body and a lens. It will fit a laptop and a g10 and a flash though. :D

Hehe, yeah.. I have seen people fit it via a bit of clever rearranging of the spacers - but it will be tight.

Fitting the laptop was not really a must for me, but it's a nice bonus having a good looking shoulder bag that will be just as good as a laptop bag, a camera bag or both at the same time. It kind of makes that $100+ 'investment' a little better. :)

I'm ordering the Tenba as soon as I can find a shop with the 'small' black version in stock, that also ships to my country. :)

The 7MDH was not meant for laptops so don't consider it if you need something to hold a laptop.

The 7MDH is great and check my review on it. You don't actually present what you plan to carry so it's hard to say one way or another. I've carried a 70-200 F2.8 attached to camera, 100-400L, 10-20, 18-50 F2.8, 50 F1.8, 430EX, and a whole lot more. It's a great bag.

The Tenba is nice as well, but the 7MDH is my wedding bag and I don't need wasted space for a laptop and I wanted something presentable when I went to weddings. Its perfect.

I just got a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW - upgrading from a Crumpler 6MDH. I had tried a Domke F-3X, but it didn't work for me.

The Stealth Reporter D300 is just a little bit larger than the 6MDH (exterior) but seems to have a lot more space on the interior. Plus it has zippers instead of the giant (LOUD!) velcro patch on the Crumpler.

Currently, I have a gripped 5D MkII w/ 24-105mm attached, 70-200mm f/4 IS, 50mm f/1.4 w/ reversed hood, and a 580EX II speedlight (in case) in the bag, and still have more room than I know what to do with. The leftover space is about 3.5"W x 6"L x 5.5"D. Good enough for another zoom or a couple of primes. And then there's 3 more pockets.

My only complaint is that the Stealth Reporter looks like a camera bag. The Crumplers are a bit more stylish IMHO.

I may try to do a full review this weekend if I get a chance.

-Mike

I owned a 7MDH at one time, good bag, but I do love my Domke's and sold the 7MDH. The 5DII gripped with a 70-200 will fit in an F2 without issue and that is what I use when carrying that combo. The flexibility and ease of access with a Domke just can't be beat.

my problem with Domke's is the limited dividers that come with the bags....i may be wrong, but i was looking at the 803 and it comes with one diveder (?) and the rest of the bag is open...i'm torn between this bag and the 7mdh, but leaning towards the 7....

Sounds like the 7MDH would work, and the F2. I'll have to go back and look at the pictures again.

Thanks all.

I've got the 7MDH and the 5D mkII w/grip... Fits fine...

I usually have the 24-70mm attached to body in the middle pocket...

I also fit a 70-200mm 2.8 IS & a 430EX flash on one side...

I also fit a 100mm 2.8 Macro, 50mm 1.4, and a 1.4x extender and rocket blower on the other side...

In the front pocket I keep filters, remote trigger, flash cards, etc.

If I have the 70-200mm mounted it's a little tight and bulges at the top, but it does close. It's just not really meant to be used that way...

Love this bag...
