Color problems

Can you give us a little more info?

1. Is your monitor calibrated? If so, how?
2. What colour space are your photos in?
3. What are your Photoshop Color Settings?
4. What sort of monitor do you have?
5. What program are you viewing the photos in after you save them from PS?
6. Have you tried printing them, and if so, is the dark problem still evident?

That's all I can think of at the moment ...

Well, if you've been going ok up til now, then clearly something must have changed. Can you give us any hints?

Well, I use North America General Purpose 2 in my PS Color Settings, and I find it just fine.

I don't know anything about DPP's colour settings, sorry.

It's a good idea (at least until you sort out your troubles) to make sure your photos are in sRGB throughout your workflow.

DPP needs to be told what monitor profile to use.

Yeah, I read that. But DPP should be identical to PS.

Whatever you do, it might not be possible to get Windows Picture and Fax viewer to display *identical* to PS, since it's not using the display profile (AFAIK).

Normally, this should not be a big difference however.

Check if you've set a weird gamma setting in the OS display prefs (or whatever it's called on windows). Should be 2.2.

No, you didn't figure it out. You just disabled color management.

Why oh why, when people are faced with a colour difference between the world's most advanced imaging software, and the picture viewer that came bundled with their OS, do they always assume that Windows is right???

Right. So a website is an authority on colour, whereas a $1000 market-leading Adobe product is not to be trusted. Yeesh!

What browser are you using?

Use FF3, with color management enabled.
Set the correct display profile in the DPP prefs. Do not set a CMYK profile there.
Do not softproof for screen in PS.

Windows Picture and Fax viewer is the one displaying incorrect.
