She's looking really great!

Next Thursday is a big day for her. Her bladder is too small so the surgeons will augment the organ with tissue from her stomach and/or intestines. After that, no more diapers. Looks to be an all day surgery and about two weeks of recovery at Riley.

That sweet little thing sure has had an awful lot of work. What was her condition at birth?

OEIS complex. Omphalocele (abdominal organs in the umbilical cord), bladder exstrophy (split in two and inside out), imperforate anus (no anal opening), spina bifida (not open, covered with skin). A rare birth defect, no known cause, and even more rare in girls.

An update. Ellie had a routine blood test recently and was found to be anemic. She will not be having the bladder reconstruction surgery Thursday. She has a Riley appointment next Tuesday with hematology to determine why she is anemic.

What a lovely picture. She sure is a beautiful little dolly! My heartfelt wishes for her and your family. Keep us posted, I sure hope they find out soon about the anemia. I don't know how things are in your city but here the health care is sooooooo slow it took over a year for my daughter to finally get her five year old son tested and then to get the results another three months. So much could have been done to help him during that time. He was diagnosed with Aspergers.

Her anemia is being controlled with diet and supplements. Her health care here in the states has been excellent; what she needs she gets with little delay. Her bladder reconstruction has been rescheduled for late July. Thanks for your concern and kind words. My thoughts are with you, your daughter, and grandson.

One of the kids from the wifes daycare was diagnosed with that after he went on to public school. Immediately they stuck him on some medication that makes him a walking zombie. I hate seeing him now (his sibling is still in the daycare). He's not the same child. Can't help but wondering if there isn't a better alternative.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

Tried to post the slideshow to be active in this window. Guess I can't do that.

Yeah that seems to be the answer to everything these days..drug them so they don't have to deal with it. My daughter will not put her son on meds. We are working with him and doing what we can and the Aspergers Society here has a worker that is helping my daughter learn to cope and helping my grandson by getting him in special programs.

We were thrilled when E took her first steps at a year and nine months.
