I can get a last generation black MacBook for $897.00. It has the 2.4GHz CPU, 2G RAM, 250G HDD, and the 8X Superdrive. This would be for my wife who would be using it primarily for school, internet, and some scrap-booking type programs. I'm pretty sure that this is a great deal considering I wouldn't have to pay sales tax on it but I'm looking for some quick opinion's. Thanks in advance.

Absolutly fine on spec for what your wife wants to do with it.

Not sure on the price though, but a search of local resellers and Apples own used line up should give you a good indication.

As a white Macbook user, I will say that $900 out-the-door on a black Macbook is a pretty good deal. That's assuming the 'Blackbook' is in good-to-excellent condition.

Whoever said that good things come to those who wait obviously never missed out on a good deal. Someone beat us to it and purchased the MacBook in question earlier today. Thanks for the quick replies though.

Bummer. Yeah, that did sound almost too good to be true!!

You might periodically check the Apple Refurb store. Sure, you gotta pay tax and all, but sometimes the cost is slashed so much that it's hard to beat what you're getting.

Even a low-end Macbook (3rd generation and beyond) will do just fine for what your wife seems to need.
