Just curious as to how many use a user defined picture setting in their cameras. If you do, what number do you set the sharpness, contrast, etc at?

If you don't, what style do you mainly use/leave on the camera? Standard mode, etc?

Just wondering if the 40d requires any on camera adjustments to help sharpen pics so that post processing is kept to a minimum.

I think the majority of people here shoot in raw, and do post processing for sharpness.

I'll agree with the above. I always shoot RAW and add sharpness in post.

Keep in mind the picture styles are MORE than just the 4 settings. The colours are altered. So the same settings on different picture styles do not give the same results. I tend to use standard - I sometimes bump up the saturation one notch.

Question: When shooting in RAW in Av mode, do the Picture Style settings even matter? They only become "active" if your in Av, for example, and switch over to JPEG, correct?

The camera settings are included in the image data, even if you shoot RAW. If you bump the sharpness/contrast/saturation in the Picture Style settings, those settings will be there in the RGB tab of the image in DPP.

If you're strictly shooting JPG, I would adjust the settings in-camera to get the results you're after.

REally, though, RAW is the way to go. If you edit y our batch at the time of download, you can keep your folder sizes reasonable.

How is the Picture Style info handled by Adobe Camera Raw? Or is it just ignored?
