Sorry, I'm really bad at selecting which shots to display.

Set up was 1 SB-800 and 1 SB-600 on light stands positioned at either ends of the court. Strobes were set at 1/4 power, 35mm coverage and fired with modified Cactus triggers.

Camera Settings:
Nikon D80
18-70 f/3.5-4.5
1/160th, f/4.5, 800 ISO

I think the shots are nice. I think they could use a touch more exposure and maybe some fill light. But they look good to me ;)

Action is there, it's frozen as well. They are a touch warm to me, but white balance to me is a personal decision

Thanks Matt. I know what you mean about the WB, I tend to like anything with people in them, a little bit warm. For some reason, when I export out of Lightroom, they drop in exposure about 1/2 a stop. I can't figure it out.

More DOF? I think his DOF is fine and could actually be a bit less.

Question for the sports shooters of basketball...What's more desirable when setting up lights? Less shadow, more clarity of the players, strobes set to look like good ambient? Trying to figure out if I should do some experimenting at tonights game.
Thanks,
HP

To be honest it is all personal preference. Just like some like the images warmer than others. The way you shoot with strobes is completely personal choice.

I like more of an ambient look, but I don't mind a soft direct look either. I like my images a touch colder while some like them warmer.

All personal choices :)

I usually go for ambient, but tonight I'll have the strobes facing the court and see what comes of it..

i feel that you've stopped down the lens way too much, DOF is too thick... (if u can use that phrase that way...) the subject still does stand out from the background because of the strobes, but the DOF is distracting.

Therefore you would agree with my previous post in the tread I think the faces in the background are distracting
