I don't think he needs to worry about copyright, it's basically a high resolution browser that doesn't download images, just views them. It's the same deal as reading the newspaper online, you're not paying for the paper anymore you're reading the news on google and yahoo for free.

I wonder what kind of applications it will have for photography, thoughts?

Think about an incorporation of this with getotagging, time stamps and facial recognition software... You would be able to identify where someone was by images posted with the subject in them. Or, geotagging with Google maps...

And with date stamps, you could look at a specific latitude and longitude in a given timeframe.

Now, let's say in a few years all cameras have built-in geotagging and wireless file transfer (with an option to automatically upload them to a photosharing site, like flickr) They could use the photosynth engine with a given set of latitude/longitude parameters to compose a model of a specific place at a specific time with complete automation!

It would be like the Google of Images. (No, not like Google Images... That's too pedestrian in comparison lol)
