This probably won't be too helpful but if I was this frustrated with my equipment, I believe I would send it to Canon for a checkup.

Or sell it and try something else.

Might not be that easy in Romania.

Good luck punk - hope it works out for you quickly, cheaply and with as little pain as possible.

I feel your pain and annoyance; over the decades I've had some strange problems and they always burned valuable times and my nerves before resolution. Your advantage here is the web and a great forum. That should cut down on the "repair time." - Stu

....., this hasn't been resolved yet. I will take the camera and both lenses to Canon. I now believe that the body has issues. .....

From the photo you submitted the lens is front focussing.
this can be a problem with either the lens or the body.
They should both be returned to canon for calibrating.

If you used center point why is the roof in the forground sharp! It looks to me that the building taken with the Canon the focus is on the roof of the building closest to the camera. So it makes sense that the building would be OOF.

Yes JBF, you're right. That would imply that I have a front focus problem, most probably with the body rather than the lens (my 18-55 exhibits the same symptoms).

Hey, good, luck! It does sound like it's a camera issue, since both lenses are having the problem, and yes, focusing a lens to the max is beyond infinity so should not be displaying these symtoms at infinity. AF should stop at infinity.

And, in the future, try to remember allof the salient points in this DOF discussion so you will never have any more problems:)!
