I'm traveling by air in a few months so I need a bag big enough to carry the following approximately:

Canon 30D (Gripped)
Canon EF 85mm 1.8 USM
Canon EF-S 10-22 USM with hood
Canon 70-200L 2.8 (Non-IS) with hood
Canon 1.4 TC
Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM with hood
Canon 380 EXII

Batteries, Cards, Filters (Square GNDs), Remote Cable Releases, etc.

So it has to be small enough to fit under a seat or in an overhead bin but large enough for that 70-200.

I saw someone else talk about dropping a shoulder bag into a regular backpack which is a novel idea and one to which I'm open since many say that backpack type is handy for carrying handsfree but not handy for accessing equipment.

Billingham 445?

Don't know if it's small enough for carry on though. (think so)

If you reverse the hood, a 335 *might* (just) work:

Thanks for that - I'm also open to less expensive options too!

Are you open to backpack options? The Tamrac Expedition 5 is good, as is the cyberpack series. I have the Lowepro Vertex 200 AW and it's great, it's what I use to fly, though you might be better off with the Vertex 100 AW. Most of these will let you carry a laptop as well.

There are so many good options, and you've gotten some great suggestions already.

I just bought the Tenba Response Large and I love it so far. The quality is good, very adjustable and has a rain cover for the really nasy days. It holds all of my gear with plenty of room to spare and Adorama has it for $65.
