New fluids needed? Old ok? I usually use the visible dust green, and have on 5d classics.

It's probably too early for reports, and I don't need a cleaning, but probably good to get this out there!

I'd drop a note to Nicholas at Copper Hill. He'd be your best bet at getting an answer. Unless you have someone that's been changing lenses in the middle of the dessert, the self-cleaning should still be working well for most folks.

TaDA don't worry, you can clean your sensor during dessert in the middle of the desert!

What!? How is that fair?

This is a good thread idea syntrix, the 5D caused all kinds of confusion with regards to what fluids could and couldn't be used on it. A clear answer would be really useful for 5DII owners.

We'd hate for someone to melt the coating on the sensor like the fiasco on the 5D classic.

Here in the UK the first sensor clean can be done for free at a Canon service centre under the warranty. I had my old 5D done under warranty at a while you wait service centre, they did a good job too.

Interesting and good to know, thanks. Do you know how to find a list of UK Canon service centres? I have a massive blob of dust on my sensor despite using the built-in cleaning and a rocket blower... Though I might hold off until just before the warranty expires!

cleaned mine with Eclipse, no problems. Also changed focus screen which led to a much cleaner viewfinder.

Try here for service centres:-

You'll need to select "Digital SLR's" from the Group drop down list. Hopefully the link works but if not just search the Canon UK website (Google it) for Service & Repair.

I think I'd hold off taking it in until near the end of warranty, then any other niggles can be sorted at the same time if they arise, as you were probably thinking in the first place.

Too scared to even think about it. But good idea for a thread.

Some stuff that says "Canon" on it and a happy trigger finger.

Thanks - the link worked a treat. My main hesitation is sending the camera in the post - Royal Mail have a habit of destroying my things...
