A large chunk of my older RAW files are shownig as being encrypted on my new pc, for some reason.
Properties>advanced>uncheck the "encrypt" box is giving me an error message.
As I don't have access to my old pc, does anyone have any ideas how I can unlock these files?

What OS are you using? Is the username on your new pc exactly the same as on the old one including any password?

New pooters OS is XP Pro SP3, as opposed to XP on the old one, and I doubt the user name is exactly the same as the first one was my brothers old cast off. No password on either.
Thanks for trying to help tho'.

That may be the issue, the files are probably still 'owned' by the username on the old machine. You should be able to log in as Administrator (not just a user account with admin rights) and unlock them from there.

To log in as Administrator, log out so that you get to the welcome screen then press Ctrl + Alt + Del twice and you then get the option to log in as Administrator which should give you access to unlock the files.

It sounds like the files were encrypted on the old machine. I would guess they were encrypted with a self signed certificate. If the parent foder was encrypted, then the files would also be encrypted.

I think you are out of luck unless you can get the old certificate from the old machine.

Thanks guys, but Ernie was right, still no joy with unlocking them.
See, this is what happens when you give old people computers and say " just play around with it, you can't possibly do any damage."
Damn kids, know nuthin'.
