It can't be done on the 5D, unfortunately. You're gonna need a 1-series if you want that kinda info.

No you heard wrong. The MKIIIs are the only 1-series bodies that won't give you a shutter count. I've had a 1D and 1DIIN and both had the shutter count in the EXIF, easily extractable in Photoshop.

I'm sure they all record the actual shutter actuations somewhere in their little electronic brains.

The trick is performing a "shutterectomy" to find the info...

I wish the manufactures would just put it somewhere in the bodies to keep account of it. Sigh....

It would be nice but I think it would have a monumental impact on the previously owned market...

Whether that impact would be good (honesty) or bad (damn, that body is usssssed...) is unclear.

Wouldn't a shutterectomy be something completely different and undesirable ?

Ah, icic. Also, I hear, the shutter count is an integer (logically), which means it only counts around 65k actuation then recycles back to 1. Some EXIF readers (apparantly photoshop) won't tell you this, others will tell you how many times it had recycled to give you an actual shutter count. This is specifically with a MKII though.

Bit irritate me as people keep asking how many actuations when they want to buy 5D if in the future I'm going to upgrade, me myself don't really care when I got mine used as long as the camera works perfect.
