First off... I am new here and enjoy reading and learing from all of you about this hobby of digital photography.

My question...

I just purchased a new LX-90 sct and would like find out about using the Cannon A40 digital camera with it for astrophotography. Is there anyone that uses this camera or one close to it for this purpose? I am looking to buy the dig-t adapter from scopetronix for a-focal photography but want to know if the camera
will do the job for deep sky as well as planets.

Thanks for your help is advance....

Astrophotography.. I've been there before.. The max exposure time with the A40 is only 15 seconds which is ok for planetary photography but not ideal for some deep sky objects as you mostly need exposures from several minutes to even hours on a stepper driven equatorial mount. You could probably make some kind of adapter to attach the camera to your telescope. Maybe you could buy the canon lense adaptor and work from this fitting to make a fitting to your telescope. i aint tried the A40 with astrophotography cos i aint got my telescopes anymore. But give it a go, its worth trying if only to see what results you get. lemmy know how it goes. good luck. Come to think about it.. it should be possible for anyone who mildly hacks the features of the canon A40 to alter the camera to expose for longer times. But i aint seen any hacks yet.. you never know what might happen in the future tho.
