After taking on board the advice on my pics in this thread... https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=628103

I decided to go back and have another go. While I'm quite pleased with the results, I'm gutted that I was running a bit late and saw the most amazing sunrise from my car instead of through the lens... this was the dying embers.

On a side note, I think I need to calibrate my monitor because I processed these at home where 1 & 2 looked fine, 3 was slightly dark. Here at work 1 & 2 look a bit washed out and 3 looks spot on. I know it's a bit of a vague question but how do they appear on your monitor?

C&C very welcome

Yep, 1 and 2 could be made a little darker for my taste. Good shots, though.

Agree with the color statement (1 & 2 could be darker). Lovely shots though.

Here's my very frank thoughts.

What are those posts sticking out of the ground? They don't seem identifiable and only seem to add a foreground element - though foreground should add something but when you don't know what it is.. it doesn't seem to help.

Secondly it appears you have mud as a major element in your photos. I don't find mud appealing in a sunset photo.

Is the WB correct on these? They seem to have more of a magenta cast than a reddish cast.

Thanks for your comments... the frank ones are quite often the ones you learn most from!

The posts are part of a shipwreck. While on one hand I guess a different angle may make that more apparent, their function was to lead the eye into the picture, so personally I'm not sure how important it is that they are identifiable? Be interested in peoples thoughts on that.

You're right mud isn't an appealing thing per se but I find the channels and ripples the water carves into it can make some interesting shapes... but it's all I have to work with at the moment, that's all there is on my nearest bit of coastline. I do intend to travel a bit further afield but thought I'd practice my technique locally first.

WB may be down to me needing to calibrate my monitor. I've tried doing it with the apple built in one but I need to invest in some proper software with a meter rather than something that involves me squinting at the screen!

I like these and think the colour cast adds a nice glow. If the posts are part of a ship wreck, how would #2 look if you shot low with the posts on your left. Might add some interest in seeing some hull like shape. Nice work.

Bob. :D

Very nice I think it is great, I think you did a great job of finding beauty and interesting shapes, colors etc in everyday things that most people pass by and never see..good job..not sure what the colors were when you shot 'em so can't really comment on them , other than to say interesting..and pretty
