Also, the florist put glitter on them. Do they not realize what glitter does with flash photography.

I have found that very few folk give us a second thought

The zoo here is the same way... Every time they build a new enclosure, they don't consider photographers. Too much glass and reflections. :(

There's a new Earth? Is is better than the one we're on? Did Slartibartfast come up with some new Fjiords?

And do we know what the question is yet?

I know.. It's such a pain in the a$$. Some photog needs to work with the designers and come up with photo friendly enclosures.

some lenses have a MA but not this one.

and for some reason, you have to set/lock it to f22 but most you don't.

Like I said it's a weird lens. And it is stiff and it will seem to lock even when it's not on properly.

Ok sure this won't make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It is a tiny lens compared to the canon 50 f1.4. Sure the next Nikkor 50 is much more expensive. Thanks for the information!!!

Oops! Lisa I looked at my brothers Smugmug pictures and he has a Nikon D40x. According to the internet the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 will NOT auto focus on that camera. That sounds odd to me!

That's correct. The D40 is a way scaled down camera (sorry) and it doesn't have an internal AF drive. Not all lenses will AF on it.

Chet this is from a D40 review:

Auto Focus only for AF-S or AF-I lenses

Perhaps the biggest negative on the D40 is that it doesn't have an internal focus drive motor and hence no mechanical focus drive pin, instead it only has CPU contacts which means it can only Auto Focus with AF-S and AF-I lenses (those with built-in focus motors). Indeed our 'standard' lens the Nikkor 50 mm F1.8D (and the F1.4D) are manual focus only on the D40. The images below show the difference between the mount on the D40 and D80, the D80 has a mechanical focus drive pin at about the 7 o'clock position.

And when his other lens went to get fixed he was going to upgrade his Nikon body, may be for the best at this point.

I have red that about the Nikon body's and the focus drives, just had never run across it. I'll let him know.
