A better description would be dimpled similar to a golf ball. I'm not sure if it will show up but here is an example. You can really see it in the darker areas. I think what is happening is that the spherical shape of the dimple is reflecting the light from the scanner as the head goes by.

Get a very clean sheet of glass, soak the prints in a water and PhotoFlo (Calgon, etc.) solution and scan while wet, then plaster the print side to the glass and let dry. That's how they get the glossy finish on old gelatin-paper (not this new-fangled resin-coated stuff) prints, although they sometimes used enameled metal plates or glossy stainless steel. Clean and spotless is the important part.

I have some stuff for you Cat. I have been scanning a bunch of graduation and wedding stuff for people that graduated from Lincoln County High School and were married in either Caliente or Pioche.

You know, I don't think Jon has given me any reason to not trust him. But the family would disown and disembowel me for sure if I ruined all these pic's.

hokay, this is what I spent my day doing (except of course for writing my column)...yeah I realize I probably could have found better things to do and this is 9 hundredzillion iterations (including one almost disastrous spelling error) later...

And realizing I'm NOT a graphic artist...how does it look?

IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v5/p264779374-4.jpg

and here are two practical applications.

IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p87782848-4.jpg

IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v6/p113895832-4.jpg

because of the way zenfolio applies the watermark the landscape version had to be narrower or take up too much of the photo.

I have not done much with the macro since the first day. I did get out for a few snaps this afternoon. This is the only one worth showing. I did get to see my hummingbird again today. Pictures were crap but good enough to figure out that it is a male Black-chinned Hummingbird.

Macros are tough. i like this shot, but, for the life of me, I can't see the hummingbird. It might be a bit too close. ;)

Those look great. I do prefer the wider version though I have no reason for doing so.
