I was stressing over the cats today, right now Eli is in the bedroom playing with snoozer

the
Cat Dancer
does it every time!
I had off today so while Eli was at school I cleaned up an area in the closet and put a bed there so at least I know where they are most of the time. The girl kitty let me pick her up and I actually held her for a while and sat on the couch scratching her neck. When I let her go she didn't bolt but just meandered off.
This evening she's been seeking us out to play with the cat dancer. The boy played a little, but is still uber scared.
I'm feeling much better about this. I hope to play with them most of the evening to avoid yesterday's 2-4 am speedway through the house!
They will get used to you, don't stress. Cats can tell your emotions, sometimes just ignoring them and letting them get used to the space is best. Also don't show fear around them or pull away when they swat or hiss, this will just encourage the behavior.
They probably have had a rough life thus far, so only time will cure this when they come to trust you. Having a place for refuge will make them feel safe for the time being.
