More from the Fly South with the Birds (external link) workshop. Wow, we are having such great weather! As much as I like Minnesota, I am not missing my below freezing temps back home.

Today we went out to a different location and stayed on land. We found crested caracara, pileated woodpeckers, and a meadowlark for some good photo opportunities.

Caracara landing on a fence post:

Nice pose on the post. The yellow spot is his bulging crop which is full of meat that Jim brought for it.

I didn't get many decent flight shots of this guy. This is the only one that came close and it's way up in the top of the frame, unfortunately. I'm surprised he was able to lift off after eating so much!

Jim called in a pair of pileated woodpeckers and we got some nice looks.

Down the road a bit, this meadowlark was singing away.

That 2nd pileated and the meadowlark are stunning, Liz. Looks like you're having a great experience Flying South.

WoW Liz, it looks like you're having a great time in Florida. Your pictures are fabulous, especially the pileated woodpeckers. It looks like you have the in-flight shots nailed.

Thanks all for looking and commenting! When I can get locked in on the bird with the Mark III, I get good results. The hard part is getting the focus nailed and tracking the bird. It's definitely a learning process and I look forward to more practice! I have a good location for tree swallows back home so that should be the ultimate challenge (probably use the 400/5.6 for that.)
