So, we use the term "take" a photo all the time, and it's second nature to us.. but does anyone know why or how this term was coined, and by whom? I know there's one ansel adams quote about him "making" instead of "taking".

I generally now refer to the process of photographing something as "shooting a photo".

Cheers,
Zexun

Hmmm, interesting point. I think I usually say "take" a picture because, like you said, it's second nature. I have no idea where it came from, however. It would be more appropriate as photographers to say "make" a photo. Especially since it can take a lot of planning and whatnot.

Dang you for actually making me THINK about what I say! ;)

Heh, glad I could inspire some IQ into your thoughts ^^

My grandparents would say "take" as well, so it's probably from looong way back.

Probably dates back to when many (most?) people thought a camera could steal your soul.

Gives "taking" a picture a rather strong meaning.

Haha, I wonder how the public would view paparazzis back then. Soul-sucking devices. That'll be creepy.
