Unless it's instant I don't deal with rebates, especially if they're not instant and they give you a stupid Visa card. Seriously...

I did a canon rebate earlier this year. I photo copied everything, checked everything out and photographed me putting it in the mail box. I also took a video with me putting the items in the evelope and sealing it up. I also pre-registered for my rebate. Now the rebate was for 600+ so I figured I'd cover my butt.

Got the rebate pretty fast, 4 weeks if I remember.

I almost lost $250 in the Sandisk rebate, but I made copies. I don't see why they just can't do instant rebates on everything now.

They could, but don't because they know that most folks don't claim them for whatever reason. Singletrack quoted a statistic that 60% of rebates are paid out. I'd bet that's high and based on Ebay resellers who buy in bulk and always do whatever it takes to claim their rebates.

The problem with instant rebates is that retailers take advantage of them and slowly raise their prices - like we saw with the last round of instant rebates.

I don't know if there is a good way to handle them.

I have done 3 now, all sucessful! :D First took 3-4 months and took a little nudge (1 phone call). Second took about 6 weeks and the last one 3 months again. Make copies of EVERYTHING and be persistent! ;) I have read on here where some have made things happen by calling Sandisk directly.

I tend to agree with avoiding mail-in rebates on the $5-10 items but getting 80+ bucks back I think is worth the effort.

I make copies of everything until I receive that check. I also staple my UPC's to the back of the application and trace/label their position with a big black Sharpie. Just to speed up the process and make it harder for them to send back your application with that common excuse of "missing UPC". Before I started doing that, I've had rejected rebate applications sent back to me with the corner torn from "someone" ripping the stapled UPC code off my application.

Just recently got the rebate, which I sent on June 10th :) had to resend it 3 times more, spent about 15-30 minutes on the phone with CS everytime trying to track down the shipping,
everything has been photocopied, photographed, and envelopes had signature confromation on them.

I'm avoiding MIR these days unless it's something huge to make my time worthwhile. But then again, I scan everything that I send in and I send in an extra copy to them as well to let them know that I have copies on hand.

Once, I did get denied but I called up the 1800 number and spoke to an associate. I just told him that I was calling because I received a card in the mail telling me my rebate submission had problems and within 5 secs, he said that everything was in order and that i would be getting the rebate check in 4 weeks. Sometimes, you just have to call and let them know that you're alive and monitoring the rebate process.

Yes, most of those rebates are a scam. I had big problem with a Canon rebate. After 6 months of fight and a letter to the CEO, I finally got my money (and more) ;-)a The second rebate went much more smoothly (they knew they shouldn't play with me ) This company is now bankrupted. I don't regret them

So the advice is: copy EVERYTHING before sending your claim, and if you really want it, be ready to spend some time...
